ENGLISH NAMED HEAD COACH, BOYS BASKETBALL

Clark-Shawnee Local School District introduces Mr. Ty English as the new Head Coach of the Boys Varsity Basketball program. English brings a background in both education and athletics to the court with a desire to see each student-athlete thrive.

“Teaching and coaching are my true passions,” said English. “It is essential for me that my players understand how much I care about them. I hope each player can take the lessons learned in our program and apply them to their life off the court. I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Boys Basketball program at Shawnee.”

With experience coaching basketball, football, and baseball at various levels, English found his passion in coaching high school basketball. For the past five years, he has served as the Head Junior Varsity Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at Archbishop Carroll High School. During this time, he coached alongside Head Varsity Coach Tim Cogan, a notable mentor and state championship titleholder. From 2017 to 2020, English led the Dayton Metro AAU High School Basketball team to an impressive 69-27 record in high-level tournament play while helping players advance to collegiate basketball programs.

“Coach English shares many of the same qualities that made Coach McGuire so respected, especially his coaching philosophy and commitment to student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Steve Tincher. “His passion for the game, dedication to team culture, and care for players make him a great fit for our program and community. We look forward to the positive impact he will make in the lives of our students and our Clark-Shawnee community.”

“I chose Clark-Shawnee because of the remarkable culture established by Coach McGuire,” said English. “His leadership and dedication over the years have created a strong foundation and set high expectations for our program. I am excited to build upon this legacy and continue fostering an environment where our athletes can thrive.”

English holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Grand Canyon University and currently serves as an Intervention Specialist at Beavercreek City Schools. He began his career in education as a School-Based Youth Specialist at Fairmont and Northridge High Schools. He also worked for five years with Big Brothers Big Sisters, supporting students in the Dayton Public Schools.

As he looks toward the 2025-2026 season, English is excited to join the Braves family and welcome the community to the court to support the student-athletes. “Joining the Brave Nation fills me with enthusiasm, especially because of the incredible support from not just the student-athletes but the entire Clark-Shawnee community. I hope this spirit continues as we work hard to form a unified, tough, and passionate group of young men ready to compete this upcoming season.”
